Phantom City was an extensive project consisting of a book and different installations of both photographs, an analogue 3-channel slideshow and finally a digital projection in 2015.
Phantom City is a photographic novel, a fictional story about a real city: Rotterdam. Through a myriad of 160 images culled from newspaper clippings, promotional materials, postcards, and other images, mixed with my own images that I took in Rotterdam between 2003 and 2009 I weave a tale about a phantom city, a place that everybody recognizes but no one knows, where the present, future and past collide and merge into an unexpected narrative.
Phantom City was exhibited and reviewed extensively both nationally and internationally. The book, nominated for a Dutch Doc Award and Best European Photobook of the Year in 2010 at Photo Espana, was published in 2010 by Pels & Kemper and designed by Hansje van Halem. It can still be bought at Nai Bookpublishers in their store and webshop (for a very good price) or through my webshop.
